Ronyel Compra is a visual artist based in Cebu City. In 2008, he earned his BFA from the University of the Philippines, Cebu. Compra has developed a distinct style with material experimentation, creating his works that implement various techniques and processes involving materials drawn from local craft including bones, twigs, bamboos and found objects. He has collaborated with a group of artists from different parts of the Philippines and the latest collaboration was in Mindanao with the Talaandig tribe artists who are known for using soil as the main ingredient of their paintings. His LUTA / LAKRA series of rubbings are dissociative exercises, transferring from the organic environment and utilitarian tools into abstract notions and forms, to create new meanings and interpretation.

Compra has exhibited in Cebu City, and Metro Manila among others. His work was included as part of VIVA EXCON CAPIZ 2018 in Roxas City. In 2019, he was shortlisted for the Ateneo Art Award for his installation Lutâ: Imprint of Lola Masyang’s House, exhibited at Fundacion Sansó in 2018.
