BATAAN EXHIBITIONS

Pawel Althamer

In early January 2017, Pawel Althamer and his partner, Julia Petelska, traveled to the Philippines to participate in a residency centered on the annual procession of the Black Nazarene in the Quiapo district of Manila.

Cian Dayrit: Busis Ibat Ha Kanayunan

In Busis Ibat Ha Kanayunan (Voices from the Hinterlands), Dayrit speaks with, rather than for, the 18 Ayta communities of Bataan province, using art as a vehicle to tell their stories of origin and of contact with the world around them.

Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan: Cagayan Garden

The exhibition is comprised of two installations conceptualized and produced with the Bellas Artes Projects workshops in Bataan at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar during January component of the Aquilizan family's long-term and ongoing residency with Bellas Artes Projects.

Hera Büyüktaşçıyan

Exploring themes of displacement, identity and reconciliation, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan creates new narratives around the notion of otherness by using metaphors such as water, a recurring symbol in her work, as the ultimate source and instrument that nurtures our memory.

Art Labor x Romah Aleo, Rcham Jeh & Puih Han: Jrai Dew Sculpture Garden

In Jrai Dew Sculpture Garden, Art Labor invite Jrai folk artists in different villages to create sculptures out of tree trunks, which we collect from coffee, rubber and peppercorn plantations’ discarded firewood or the artists pick in scarcely left jungles. The works reflect contemporary perspective of ritual, desire and observation of their daily lives.
